The pressuriser keeps the coolant under great pressure to stop it from boiling, even at 325°C. This gives the reactor its name: Pressurised Water Reactor (PWR).
The pressuriser is a large, upright cylinder with heaters at the bottom and sprays at the top, which allow close control of pressure during startup, operation and shutdown.
The pressure generated by the pressuriser is like that you’d feel around a mile under the sea.
